MFF #17

Thanks to wifeofasailor for the questions every week.  If you are new to the game and want to play just click on the button.

Here are this week's questions:

What are some things on your bucket list?

I think Bucket Lists are a bit depressing and morbid but a few things I would like to do are learn to fly a plane, learn the guitar, go to Scotland and see Duart Castle...

How long have you been a MilSpouse and where have you been stationed so far?

We will have been married 5 years this New Year's Eve (best anniversary date ever - you get fireworks every year) and I have been stationed at Fort Hood and South Korea.  I say I have been stationed because while I stayed at Fort Hood, Adam went to Fort Lee, Fort Riley, Iraq, Korea (not in that order).  We don't believe in uprooting my life (and making my resume a jumbled mess of short term jobs) if he is only going to be gone for a year or less or if he is going to directly deploy from the new place.

What is a list of songs that sums up your life so far?

I really don't have a playlist that sums up my whole life.  I mean it would totally start out with some kick ass 80s music (I was born in 1979 so the first music I remember was 80s), then have some NKOTB, add alternative especially the Seattle sound movement (I am a Washingtonian), late 90's boy bands, rock and Emo and splash in a little opera and classical.

What is your favorite kind of pizza?

It is a toss up between 3 different types:
1. Ham, Pineapple and Mushroom,
2. Pepperoni and Green Pepper, and
3. hamburger.

What are three good things in your life right now?
  1. My family (including my parents, brother, husband, and puppies)
  2. My friends (all of them scattered around the world)
  3. Pizza - Living in Korea Pizza isn't a once a week thing it was before and it isn't as easy to get as it was before.  Yeah, they have Papa John's, Pizza Hut, etc but it isn't the same as an American greasy pizza.  So, on occasion when we go to the food court on post I savor my Anthony's Pizza.

Oh I was a rabid NKOTB fan. Even made a quiz when I was in the 5th grade because my friends didn't think this other girl in class was a big enough fan and wanted to test her... yeah, I was a bit of a mean girl in school. Still have my NKOTB pillow case, too. It holds together my favorite pillow's innards.

I'm a total pizza girl too! It messes me up like NO other but I really enjoy it going down. I didn't know that we shared that in common. Thanks for sharing.

I will admit I too was a NKOTB fan. How do you survive while your spouse is gone? I hope you visit him when he's stationed at the places you can. I can't even imagine. The 18 months we spent apart while he was in Iraq was horrible and that was the entire first year of our marriage. And before that we were apart for six months while I went to Basic and AIT. You are one brave woman! Thanks for sharing!

Lady Rynn, I do go visit him as often as I can and he would come see me whenever he could... which is always fun because it's like planning a vacation and when I came to see him in Korea it was a major vacation. We have just found a way to make being apart work when we have to... obviously it isn't ideal but we don't plan on doing this FOREVER and it won't always be necessary to be apart... Like right now we are together for 24 months minimum. We also had to endure an over one year deployment in our first year of marriage and I think we both feel that if we survived that we can survive anything that is thrown at us.

That's a good point about not moving every single time your spouse gets a new assignment - especially if he's going to be gone. We made the choice not to move this time so our daughter could finish high school.

My husband and I are doing the same thing; he's been to Ft. Riley, Afghanistan, Ft. Sill, and now South Korea in the past 2 1/2 years while I've stayed put. It's nice to hear that we're not the only ones who decided to take this approach!
