30 Days of Me - DAY 30

YEA! We have made it to the end of the month of September and the end of 30 Days of Me.  I hope you have learned something about me.  It has been fun and I have loved reading everyone's comments (I am a total comment whore though and get so excited when someone leaves one that I can't contain myself.)

So, without further adieu let's do this thing.

Day 30 is A photograph of yourself today + three things that you have learned in the past 30 days

Me Right Now (Not the best picture I am getting sick and my desk is a mess)
Three Things I Have Learned This Month:
  • I CAN climb straight up a mountain. It will take me 2 hours to go up. I will have to take a break every 100 m, my legs will vibrate and give out on me on the way down and then swell and hurt for a week afterwards. But I did it and I have pictures to prove it!
This about 1.1 km in when we were on the steps... they got WAY steeper.

The view from about 200m below the top.  Daegu is in the far background.
  • That just because APO's are in the US Postal Service system doesn't mean that everyone will mail to you.  BOO! Amazon and your special APO rules!
  • That Korea goes from 100F to 50F literally over night. Fall came on with a BAM! this year.  I will take it though.

30 Days of Me - Day 28

Day 28 is a photo of you and your family.

Only thing that could have made this photo better is if Adam was in it.

30 Days of Me - Day 27

Day 27 is my Celebrity Crush.

Okay, I was going to pick just one celebrity crush but if I did that it wouldn't exactly be fair to my other 4.  If you haven't ever spoken to me or paid attention anything I say then me having a living "laminated five" will come as a surprise to you.  Check out an old blog post that goes in to the gory details.  Anyway, without further adieu my list and my celebrity crushes.

1. Sidney Crosby (Canada's Golden Boy)

2. Zac Levi (Lovable Nerd)

3. Ian Somerhalder (Vampire Badboy)

4. Pierre Bouvier (Tatted Rocker)

5. Gerard Butler

30 Days of Me - Day 26

Day 26 is a photo of my favorite place to eat.

That favorite place to eat is El Caporal in my hometown.
This is a bad picture of the outside.

30 Days of Me - Day 25

Day 25 is a favorite photo of your best friend.

I have many best friends.  They all represent special times in my life and I am still very close to them now.  Those who aren't my family are like my family in every sense of the word except that we aren't blood related.
First, my hubby.
Love this picture of him with Bubbles.
My mom is another one of my best friends.
Mom outside her favorite shop at Pike Place Market (Piroshky Piroshky).

Tasha is my best friend from when I was in the 7th grade even though we have been friends since we were 7.
Halloween at the DQ.
My best friend while I was in college was Kate.
We used to go for drives when we got bored or were ditching class and explore the Palouse.
Lastly, my sister Amber.  Okay, she isn't really my sister since I only have a brother but I feel like she is my sister minus the whole growing up together thing.  We try to get together once a year and go Vegas but being I am out of country we won't be doing that for a few years.
I loved the Coke store but that Bear creeped me out and he knew it.

30 Days of Me - Day 24

Day Twenty-four is another whatever tickles your fancy day.

I am going to talk about my nephews.  They are pretty awesome.  I haven't met the newest one, CJ (born in July), yet, because of being in Korea and all but he has got to be just as awesome as his big brother, DJ (1 year), or as we call him, "The Outlaw".  The other nephews are the twins, CP and JG (3 years).  They are the first Dub-Yuh grandkids and quite the little duo.

These nephews are all from Adam's sisters because to my mother's despair there are no "Mc" grandbabies yet.

30 Days of Me - Day 23

Day 23 is a YouTube video.

This video is from 2006 when I was playing around with my webcam setup we had gotten in preparation for Adam's deployment.  This video still makes me laugh uncontrollably hard and I can't not watch it more than once. (FYI - I wrote the song in High School while bored at work in the Kitchen of the DQ.)

30 Days of Me - Day 22

Day 22 is a website.

Okay, this was a hard one and instead of taking FOREVER to find a website to share I have decided to share my sister-in-law's new website for her company, Become Shoppertunistic, called GlamMore.

Here is an excerpt from her Bio:
"I am a SASSY seasoned teacher who is skilled at teaching you how to stretch your budget!  Getting everyday items for a fraction of the price, for free and sometimes even MAKE you money!

I have stiletto taste on a shoe string budget! This is how I live the glamorous life!"

An excerpt from a blog that explaining her website's name:

Why Do I Shop Strategically? Meet My G.L.A.M. Account!
Why do I choose to spend a few hours a week strategically shopping? Checking blogs, cutting coupons, and making a few trips to the store??? I do it for my G.L.A.M. Account! Before I started shopping strategically I felt like my budge was a bad word. Strategic shopping helps me to seize savings and stretch my budget!
G.
Generous Gift Giving
We have a budget of $25 for a gift for someone. I wish that I had deeper pockets because I LOVE giving gifts! I have a VERY generous heart. However, our budget warrants a $25 price tag.
Instead of getting bummed out by this or allowing it to limit me, I find gifts that were $25 but are on sale! That means I can buy multiple gifts for the price of 1.
I also use my strategic shopping skills to get items for free that I can donate to the Food Bank or to Shelters. My current budget would only cover food and personal items for myself otherwise.
Gloss
The money I save shopping strategically can go to spa services such as pedicures, hair cut and coloring, massages etc. Shopping strategically also provides the ability to buy new top shelf items at the drug store that otherwise wouldn’t be covered by my budget.
L.
Lux Living
Strategic shopping is the key that bends my budget in the area of lux living! I say that I have “Stiletto taste on a shoe string budget.” Tiffany jewelry, Seven Jeans, Fendi products, Rock & Republic.....The list goes on! Strategic shopping doesn’t mean just using coupons it means seizing deals that help to stretch your budget. I LOVE Nordstrom Rack for this reason! They offer high ticket items at a discounted price.
Being a stay at home mom is also a luxury that my family and I enjoy. Shopping strategically helps us in this area too buy stretching our budget to make this a possibility.
The luxury of time. I LOVE Date Night with my hubby! We have the luxury of having Date Night every Friday and strategic shopping helps stretch our budget to cover the cost of dining out, going to a movie, or spending the night at a posh hotel (Pricelined of course).
A.
Assets
We carry two mortgages, one on our starter home, now a rental, and on our dream home. Strategic shopping helps us stretch our budget to cover the difference on the rental home so we can enjoy our dream home!
M.
Mind on My Money and My Money on My Mind
Shopping strategically frees up money in one area that I can spend on another! I say, “Save on the things you have to buy so you can spend on the things that you want!” NO one WANTS to spend money on lady products, but if you need them you have to or you find a way to get them cheap or for free! I then use the money that I would have spent on lady products to put into my G.L.A.M. Account!
Finally, strategic shopping is just that~strategic! My mind LOVES a challenge! I think of it as a game with a great prize!
There you have it! I hope that this inspires you to start shopping strategically and start your own G.L.A.M. Account and begin living the glamourous life!

There you have it. If you want to save money go check it out.

30 Days of Me - Day 21

Day Twenty-One is a recipe.

I have been sharing recipes lately and have been participating in Prairie Story's Recipe Swap Thursday.  I have been doing this for two reasons.  I want to have a record of my recipes that I make (usually by winging things together) and to gather more recipes (even if I haven't found the time to go back and check on the other recipes - some day).
Anyway, here are some of the recipes I have shared lately (it will also update as more are added so feel free to check back):

30 Days of Me - Day 20

Day twenty is a hobby of yours.

I am a knitter.  I taught myself how to do it one winter in Alaska while house-sitting to keep  myself busy when I was house ridden due to the snow.  I am pretty lazy knitter, though.  Although I have the skill to do any pattern you give me I don't like to do that.  I like to use knitting as a way to keep my hands busy and I don't really want it to take too much concentration.  I stick to making scarves and blankets mostly because I can whip them out in no time.  I have been known to make a baby sweater or two, doggie sweaters and an occasional hat.
I have been on a knitting hiatus since moving.  I really need to finish a baby blanket I started knitting when a friend had her baby back in July but I have just not had any motivation.  The little girl will be grown at the rate I am going.  Oh well.  One day I will sit down and whip out the last bit.
But then there is the problem with the finishing touches.  I hate sewing the ends in to the cloth.  I just hate it.  I do love it when my Mother in law comes 'round and does it for me though... but since we are in Korea I doubt that will happen any time soon.
I have a great yarn collection but doesn't any knitter?  Who knows when you might need baby pink boucle' yarn, right?  I had to stop myself from going to Hobby Lobby unless I actually had a project because I have two baskets full of yarn and no place to put any more.
Anyone else have a hobby like this??

30 Days of Me - Day 19

Day nineteen is a talent of yours.

I'm a know-it-all.  This may or may not be a talent in some people's books but I like that I know a lot about nothing.  I can tell you pretty much anything you want.  I specialize in random pop culture facts.  In fact, when I was feeling down about my mathematical and therefore engineering skills in college I changed my major to Post WW2 American Studies and was calling it majoring in Pop Culture.
My husband finds it curious as well as annoying this talent of mine.  He hates when I correct him (but I can't let it go without him knowing what is right) and he doesn't understand why I care to know about celebrities, etc.  Now, don't get me wrong I am not a stalker but I like to be in the know.  I read gossip blogs but take it all with a grain of salt.  It doesn't matter to me who is dating whom but I like to know that I know.  If that makes any sense.
Anyway, it isn't just pop culture that my brain is full of... I have all sorts of useless and useful facts about a little bit of everything.
Lastly, with this talent comes the piece that I don't like being wrong... now I will admit that I am wrong but if I am uncertain about whether I know it as a fact then I won't say it.  Therefore, I am rarely wrong and when I am called on it (depending on how aggressively I am called on it) I will take the time to prove myself and if I can't then I will concede... but once I do prove myself and you still try to say I am wrong I will fight you like a hell hound.

30 Days of Me - Day 18

Day 18 is, again, whatever tickles my fancy.

I was looking for some fun videos for class and came across this one.  It is one of my all time favorites and the students are always amused by this kid's geekiness.  Even the hardest thug has a laugh at this video and many walk away singing, "decimal decimal."

Enjoy!

30 Days of Me - Day 17

Day Seventeen is a piece of art.

Every once in a while I like to dabble in a little drawing, sculpting, painting... and other artsy things.  I think it is my mom coming out in me.  I used to think I had a knack for it and then when I was in college I was majoring in Architecture and as such had to take a drawing class.  The pretentious TA that was teaching the class laughed at a drawing I had spent a great amount of time on and told me he "hoped I was taking this class for fun" and made me cry and want to drop out of school.  I didn't drop out of school but I did change my major to Mechanical Engineering which was a way better fit.

Recently (within the last few years) I have really become a lover of the Pop Art movement especially Roy Lichtenstein.
Roy Lichtenstein, Kiss V, 1964
I tried to copy "Kiss V" and I had issues with the dots and totally messed the hand up but overall didn't think it was too bad for a first try.

Then I did my own.

30 Days of Me - Day 16

Day 16 is a song that makes you cry (or nearly).

I was going to just go with Carrie Underwood's "Just a Dream" because it totally made me bawl the other day but then I decided to change my mind to one that isn't so depressing.
So, my choice is Sade's "By My Side."  I walked down the aisle to this song.  I had my mom on my right side and my dad on my left.  As we walked down the aisle I was crying so hard I couldn't breathe and my mom and to remind me to calm down and breathe to which I sobbed, "I can't."  My corset was too tight!  That day  is one of the happiest days of my life so far and this song reminds me of it.  The words also remind me of the commitment and love I gave that day.

By My Side
You think I'd leave your side baby?
You know me better than that
You think I'd leave down when your down on your knees?
I wouldn't do that

I'll do you right when your wrong
I-----ohhh, ohhh

If only you could see into me

oh, when your cold
I'll be there to hold you tight to me
When your on the outside baby and you can't get in
I will show you, your so much better than you know
When you're lost, when you're alone and you can't get back again
I will find you darling I'll bring you home

If you want to cry
I am here to dry your eyes
and in no time you'll be fine

You think I'd leave your side baby
You know me better than that
You think I'd leave you down when your down on your kness
I wouldn't do that

I'll do you right when your wrong
I-----I, ohhhh, ohhh

If only you could see into me

Oh when you're cold
I'll be there
To hold you tight to me
Oh when you're alone
I'll be there by your side baby

**See I am crying now**

30 Days of Me - Day 15

Day 15 is a fanfic a poem written by you (I had to change this one because I find fanfics weird.)

Shoes - A Haiku
My beloved shoes.
The healer of strife and blues.
I need more, it's true.

I loved my shoes and pretty dress for a dress up date night in Austin.

30 Days of Me - Day 14

Day 14 is a non-fictional book.

I don't read much non-fiction.  I have a few that I buy with every intention of reading or that I start but never finish (Hilary Clinton's autobiography and both of Barack Obama's books).  I just don't find non-fiction as engaging as fiction.  I think its because I want books to be outlets from the real world and instead non-fiction is still the real world and I have to actually think while reading it.  Boo!
So, I have thought long and hard and have came up with a non-fiction book that I actually read all the way through (even for school I wouldn't finish the whole book).  The book I came up with was A Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank.  I can't even tell you when I read this book... middle school, maybe.  It has been a long time.  Being that I read it from cover to cover means it was a good book... and therefore I HIGHLY recommend it if you haven't read it.

30 Days of Me - Day 13

Day 13 is a fictional book.
I have chosen Karma Girl by Jennifer Estep.

My friend, Amber, had given me this book in July when I was in Idaho hanging out.  I started reading it and it was super cute.  Not what I would have normally read because it is a romance novel of sorts but still very cute.  It is book 1 in a series about Superheros and Ubervillians in a town called Bigtime.  If you are looking for a light fun read you should definitely check it out.

30 Days of Me - Day 12

Day 12 is another Whatever Tickles My Fancy day.

I have decided to share an Engineer joke (I love nerd jokes - Math, Engineer, whatever - if you have one please share.)

Three engineering students were gathered together discussing the possible designers of the human body.
One said, ``It was a mechanical engineer. Just look at all the joints.''
Another said, ``No, it was an electrical engineer. The nervous system has many thousands of electrical connections.''
The last said, ``Actually it was a civil engineer. Who else would run a toxic waste pipeline through a recreational area?''

30 Days of Me - Day 11

Day 11 is a photo taken of me recently.

I have a few photos to choose from since I have been documenting this last summer as well as my recent adventures here in Korea.  I chose one that was funny though.  This was taken by my friend, Amber, in Boise at Sockeye Grill.
